Regular eye examinations are a vital part of any health care programme. They are essential to ensure normal development in children and for the early detection of conditions affecting the eyes and general health. Zacks London Eye Clinics (Islington, London N1 and Warren Street, London W1) provide a corporate scheme for VDU eye sight tests and a diabetic retinal screening programme. Same day appointments are usually available for people who need to be seen urgently and NHS patients are welcome.

The Eye Examination

Every new patient is given a full eye examination which takes approximately half an hour. The spectacle prescription is ascertained by at least two different methods and the eyes are examined externally and internally for conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, macula degeneration and retinal detachments. Retinal photographs are taken using a digital fundus camera and the images are stored on a computer for comparison on future visits. The ocular effects of systemic conditions such as diabetes and raised blood pressure can also be detected and monitored with our imaging systems. Occasionally, eye drops are required to dilate the pupils or relax the muscles inside the eye. Additional tests for binocular vision, intra-ocular pressures, visual field analysis and colour vision are performed when necessary.

At the first appointment we aim to gather as much information as possible regarding ocular history, general health and family history. Details of previous prescriptions for glasses, contact lenses and medication are also extremely valuable along with information regarding lifestyle and specific optical requirements. After the eye examination advice is given on the most suitable visual correction. Occasionally a second appointment is required for further tests or specialist examinations and if necessary we will liase with a patient’s doctors and specialists.

Corporate Schemes (VDU users & Safety Eye-wear)

Zacks London Eye Clinics conduct a corporate scheme for local companies providing employees with significant discounts on our products and services. Several eye care vouchers such as Accor and Duncan and Todd are also accepted. In addition to the sight test, advice is given regarding use of occupational equipment and visual problems arising in the work place. Spectacle lenses specifically designed for use with computers are prescribed when necessary.

Vision & Driving

Recent figures suggest one in three people in the UK are taking to the roads without having regular sight tests. Furthermore one in ten drivers fail to meet the legal minimum visual standard. Patients suffering from conditions such as glaucoma have a legal obligation to inform the DVLA of their circumstances and must have regular tests to ensure that their vision is good enough. At Zacks Fitzrovia Eye Clinic and Kings Cross Eye Clinic we have Visual Field Analysers to perform special driving tests which are recognised by the DVLA.
