Standard / Single Vision Contact Lenses

Whilst standard single vision contact lenses correct myopia, they do not slow its progression and are generally used for vision correction without myopia control benefits.

Multifocal Contact Lenses for Myopia Control

Multifocal contact lenses are designed with multiple zones that correct vision at different distances. They help manage myopia by creating a myopic defocus on the peripheral retina, which can slow the progression of myopia.

Daily Disposable Contact Lenses for Myopia Control

We currently offer two types of daily disposable contact lenses for myopia management; both have excellent proven results:

MiSight 1 Day Lenses

The MiSight 1 Day lenses, developed by CooperVision, are specifically designed for myopia control in children aged 8 years and over. These daily disposable lenses are FDA-approved and are now available in a Silicone hydrogel ‘MyDay’ material for improved permeability and comfort.

Design: Daily disposable lenses with a distance centre providing clear vision for regular wear, with a special multifocal design for myopia control.

Efficacy: FDA-approved; randomised clinical trial showed 59% reduction in myopia progression over a 3-year period, compared to single vision lenses and the longer term data has remained excellent.

NaturalVue Multifocal Lenses (AKA Menicon Bloom)

NaturalVue lenses, produced by Visioneering Technologies, Inc., feature the Neurofocus Optics design, which creates an extended depth of focus for clear vision at multiple distances. These lenses are approved for controlling myopia progression in children.

Design: Daily disposable lenses with clear centre and extended depth of focus. Suitable for daily use, comfortable and easy to handle.

Efficacy: The PROTECT study demonstrated that children between 8 and 12 years old wearing NaturalVue lenses experienced an average reduction in myopia progression of 71% compared to the control group.

Monthly Disposable Multifocal Contact Lenses for Myopia Management

Monthly disposable multifocal soft contact lenses are available in an extended range of prescriptions and can even be tailor made to almost any size and shape. Studies show that certain multifocal lenses, although not designed for myopia control, can reduce myopia progression by up to around 50%.

Annual Replacement Tailor Made Soft Contact Lenses for Myopia Control

Tailor made soft contact lenses can be made in any size and shape and prescription, to help people that fall outside the standard parameters.

Specialist Contact Lenses for Myopia Control

Specialist contact lenses such as multifocal hybrids and scleral’s are occasionally used off label for myopia management when more conventional options don’t work.

Key benefits of Myopia control Contact Lenses

  • Myopia Control: These lenses are very effective at slowing down the progression of myopia, potentially reducing the risk of developing severe myopia-related complications in the future.
  • Enhanced Vision: Contact lenses provide a wide field of vision, without the magnification or minification provided by glasses and can correct other vision issues such as anisometropia and astigmatism.
  • Convenience: Available in disposable options, they are easy to replace and maintain.
  • Aesthetics: Contacts don’t alter your appearance, allowing you to maintain your natural look.
  • Practicality: Contact lenses are less cumbersome than glasses, and ideal for physical activities like sports and exercise.
  • Comfort: Modern lenses are designed for comfort, often making them unnoticeable once they’re in place.
  • Freedom from Weather Conditions: Contacts don’t fog up or get splattered by rain, unlike glasses.
